Your Doctor's Notes Questions Answered

A doctor’s note is a medical certificate from a doctor that provides proof about illness or injury. Usually, a doctor’s note is given as evidence regarding taking time off work to recover.

At a WELL Health clinic, the process is straightforward. You can book an appointment at any primary care clinic, either with your family or a walk-in doctor. During your appointment, the doctor will assess you and provide a note with their assessment.

If you are booking an online appointment with VirtualClinic+, the steps are similar. Please ensure you follow the correct steps in the booking process, providing the necessary contact information.

If you don’t have a family doctor or are unable to see them, it’s advisable to provide a copy of the note to your family practice clinic.

However, any doctor should be able to provide a doctor’s note, providing it is deemed appropriate. It doesn’t matter if you go to a walk-in or your regular family practice clinic.

Doctor’s notes are generally not covered by provincial health insurance plans, such as British Columbia’s MSP or Ontario’s OHIP. As a result, there is a fee for obtaining a doctor’s note, and the cost can vary depending on the clinic or telehealth service you use.
